At Riverbend Primary School, our English program is designed around the Science of Learning and supports students to develop the strong foundations for reading, writing and oral language. In Foundation to Year 2, we use Phonics Plus to explicitly teach students the essential skills needed for reading and spelling success. Students also participate in Text Studies, which provide them experiences around rich texts, developing the nessecary skills to comprehend and understand a range of texts, whilst also developing a love of literature. From Year 3-6, we use Ochre Education to support consistent, knowledge-rich literacy instruction. Our teaching practices are grounded in explicit teaching, guided practice, repetition and regular feedback. Students are supported to build and retain strong literacy skills and develop confidence as readers and writers.
